Renew Action in Asset Workbench times out resulting in unknown error

CPQ's Asset workbench is not able to handle larger amounts of Assets on an action.

In the CPQ Asset workbench if we attempt to renew all of the assets on an Account at once we have noticed significant performance degradation as more assets are added to the quote. Eventually the workbench will fail with an unknown error and the user must navigate back to the quote manually. Once opening the quote you can watch it add each asset line by line until it is done. This can sometime take up to an hour + to complete. I've attempted disabling every function running in commerce. I've increased all timeouts in CPQ to increase and the
