Data Management - Lookup dimension in a metadata load?

Is there a way to use a lookup dimension as part of a metadata load?

When we tried to set one up for our Projects dimension. It only allowed "Generic" dimension (aka metadata properties such as member name, parent name, data storage etc.).

We have attributes in PPM that we are using to identify the proper parent of each project. The parent will change based on various conditions and various attributes (aka if attribute 1 is x, then look to attribute 2 to be parent).

The plan was to use the attributes as lookup dimensions and then use SQL mappings on the Parent Name "dimension" to do the proper mapping.
