Supply and Demand Planning - Performance Impact

Summary:

Does the running of data collection and supply/demand plan run cause performance issues in SCM?

Content (required):

We are working with a third party SI to help setup planning. They said that we should run collections and the plan off hours as it causes performance issues. She also mentioned we should avoid transactions as it could cause the plan or collection to fail. This is not aligned with my experience but she was fairly convincing.
