Insuffucient Functionality on Deviations Change Request

Functionality Associated with Deviations

We have a requirement of using Deviations to deviate from current revision documents for a period of let's say 45 days.

During these 45 days when Deviation is active, the system should either highlight deviation on the item or allows to show deviated attachments.

But, OOTB Deviation Change Request is merely an approval workflow and it does not highlight anywhere on the item or while creating BOM that there is a deviation on the Item. Please help understand the purpose of Deviations in the system and how they can be useful in a Business process.
