How to set a new supervisor automatically

How to set a new supervisor automatically
Content (required):
Hi,
we created a new custom supervisor type. We would like to set a rule which allows us to automatically fill in the field related to the new supervisor type (with the name of a particular emplyoee identified, according to the aforementioned rule), when we hire a new employee. Basically we would like to implement a rule similar to that one which allows to automatically define the Line Manager (the Line manager is identified with the Manager of the new employee's Department).
Hoping someone has some suggestions,
Thanks a lot,
