Is there a way to link Static/Reference variable used in the content of doclet to the subvar in MR?

Summary:

I am supposed to create 5 report packages and may have to maintain CurrYr/CurrMnth and CurrDate as Static variables to manage the content references in the doclet.

Content (required):

As we cannot use Static/reference variables within MR, i have to rely on Subvars used in source system pertained to current year to build the report. But stakeholders have to update the CurrYr/CurrMnth as static variables as well as subvars in source system. And this is just a minor example, each report package may have multiple reports that uses many subvars and it's a cumbersome activity on admin to handle the list of updates on each report packages across static/reference variables.
