Can we have both row and column for a configurable array set ?

Summary:

I am trying to have both rows and columns for a configurable array set.

Content (required):

I have created 4 array attributes, 1 array controller attribute, and 1 array set. After adding those attributes to the array set, I see the columns marked as 1,2,3 ... and so on (I have used the display type as horizontal). I want to have 1st quarter, 2nd quarter, 3rd quarter etc instead of 1,2,3. I don't want to go for HTML tables or any CSS

Another issue - I have hidden (from layout) the controller attribute, and a hiding rule to hide (always, )but I still see the "+" sign. Is there any way (apart from JS/CSS) to hide that "+" sign
