If there are multiple Data Configurations to build a transaction from shipment, where to control which one to use?

I was poking randomly around over weekend and noted Data Configuration is the place to specify what field to copy over when building a transaction from shipment. However in case of many Data Configs are created for different shipment types, where to control which one to use? I didn't find any logic config for that.
