Alerts Composer Custom Learning Resource Alerts - intended functionality of Enabled field?

When setting up a Custom Resource Alert in Alerts Composer, the first field is Enabled and the choices are Yes or No. This field appears above Alert Code and Name.

My question is, what is the intended functionality of the Enabled field? We noticed that if we create an alert and set Enabled to Yes and set up an alert schedule, eg to run daily, then come back to the alert later and switch Enabled from Yes to No, it has no effect on the alert schedule - the alert continues generating according to the specified alert run frequency. So Enabled doesn't seem to function as an On/Off button.

Howdy, Stranger!
