Parent node needs to be same in the Source and Target apps while enabling subscription?

Summary:

When enabling the subscriptions between ERP and EPM application, do we need to have the Parent node same in the Hierarchy for the changes to get reflected ?

Not on a high level, Does at least the base level parent member need to be same?
