is Drop Shipment supported for PTO models

Could someone advise if drop shipment supported for PTOs? it seems supported for KITs, but for PTOs we are getting error "The item isn't valid. Verify that the item is defined in the item master, is purchasable, has the standard structure item type, and is associated with a purchasing category. "

we suspect that structure in this case will not be standard but a model. so it will not work.
