How to get Total Cost in Product Development from Costing

How to get Total Cost in Product Development from Costing. We have set up the inventory cost org in configurations.

When we did Refresh Cost for an item which had some cost in costing module, the total cost or material cost field did not get updated.

Please suggest are we missing any important step here.
