Can we have a Certification course renewal based on another Refresher course

Summary:

The customer have Certification Courses which expires in 2 years. Now as part of the renewal of the Certificate, the Learner needs to complete a Refresher Course which is different from the original course.

Can anybody encountered such a scenario and what might be the possble solution for this?

The challenge is automate the process, so that an automatic assignment gets created for the learner prior to the expiry of the Certificate using Renewal rules
