Need to change Placed in Service Date

Summary: We need to change the place in service date on a few hundred assets, but we receive the message - You can't update the date placed in service for the asset because the asset has a transaction with a date that's before the date you entered.

Content (required): We depreciated based on a mid-year convention. All assets have the same placed in service date 7/1. When we converted to Oracle the incorrect date was loaded by our implementer (the invoice date). Net effect is that we can change some dates to the correct date, but other assets with a PIS date before 7/1, we cannot update. Would anyone have an idea on how we can fix this issue (retire assets and reload them with the correct date?).
