OCI Linux: Mount Command Failed with Error "mount: can't find LABEL=VAR"

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.0 and later

Linux x86-64

Symptoms:

This issue occurred during Exadata Precheck failed with error:

ERROR: Filesystem label VAR is not found, this will fail the reboot after the update.

Mounting also failed with error:

$ mount -a
mount: can't find LABEL=VAR
$

Cause:

The issue is due to a corrupted LVM filesystem with LABEL TYPE="jmicron_raid_member".

$ blkid /dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbVar1
/dev/mapper/VGExaDb-LVDbVar1: TYPE="jmicron_raid_member"
$

Solution:

  • First take the backup of the logical volume.
  • Unmount the LVM filesystem again.
