OCI: How To Boot Centos Into Single User Mode

Goal

This document will explain how to access the Boot menu (grub menu) of a Centos Operating System using OCI Cloud Shell Connection or Local Console Connection

Solution

·        Start by Launching Cloud Shell Connection or create a local connection

 

·        Then reboot the system and monitor the boot from the created Cloud Shell Connection or create a local connection

 


  • Once boot process starts, wait for the GRUB boot menu to appear as shown in the screen shot below



  • Next, select the Kernel version from the grub menu item and press e key to edit the first boot option. Now use the Down arrow key to find the kernel line (starts with “linuxefi“), then at the end of the line add the argument "rw init=/sysroot/bin/sh" as shown in the screen shot below
