Lot controlled component

Summary:

Can we return a lot-controlled component from a WO using a different lot number than that was used during the issue transaction?

For ex: comp1 issued to WO1 using lot-1. Can we do a return to lot-2?

System is still permitting to choose the other one. Would like to know the impact on the inventory/costing.

Kindly advise if this is permitted to do?
