Can we create a Role based approval workflow in submitting an Absence?

Hello Experts,

Can we use a role based approval workflow in submitting an Absence? Expected approval condition and flow is the following:

1. Employee with a Timekeeper Role sumbits the Vacation Leave in behalf of an employee
2. VL will send to employee's Line Manager for Approval

Already raised an SR 3-34039653681 : CCC Role Based issue in Absence approval rule and they have provided some discussion links but seems it does not answer my question.
