Can we replace Oracle's 1000 character 'Solution Description' field with a custom field.

Can we add a custom field with more than 2000 characters and replace it in lieu of the Oracle-delivered 'Solution Description' field, which has a limit of only 1000 characters? We have a requirement to increase the character limit. We are using Classic Helpdesk.
