Posting topside journals to an entity by specifying fully qualified path

With the goal of having eliminations calculated at an alternate parent, we created an alternate rollup in Entity dim. The elim entries got calculated as expected. But if I post a topside journal by specifying the fully qualified path of the entity, it still impacts the main instance of the entity. For e.g. if I post a topside journal to [AltParent].[Co100], post Consolidation it impacts [TotalCompany].[Co100].

Does anybody know how to use the fully qualified path to its full potential? is the trick in using another data input member? We have the workaround by creating a new entity in the alternate parent and direct all the topside journals into that, but I'm wondering if we could avoid creating a new entity.
