No Atom feed events for Hidden flex fields

Atom feed events seem to not be generated when flex fields are set to Display Type "Hidden".

Content (required):

In order to work around the lack of Atom feed events for InternalOfficeNumber on Assignments, we created a new flex field, "InternalOfficeNumberCopy". Obviously, we did not want end users to see this in their views, as it was purely a trigger for a change event in the Atom feed, and thus we changed the Display Type from "Text Box" to "Hidden". This, however, had a peculiar side effect: Atom feed events stopped being generated for this field!

Have anyone else experienced a similar "feature"? I currently have an open SR to get confirmation for whether this is by design, but at the moment, it appears I'm mostly being asked to send screenshots to convince the support contact that this is actually happening...
