Why would a new course be using a different course's completion date?

Summary:

We created a whole new course (different course number) from a previous course. While we did copy it, everything is different, the content file, the name, assignment rules. but the new course is pulling the old completion date and messing up records that need to be 100% accurate for employees to be compliant for their job.

Is there a bug in the newest update? Can you not copy a course to make a new course?
