Not able to edit work schedule

we have created a work schedule and assigned it to employees. later we noticed that the effective start date was wrong we needed the correct effective start date but were not able to edit the work schedule, so we removed the work schedule from the employee. currently, no employees are assigned to that work schedule but I am still not able to edit the work schedule.
