Can we change the Employment Model, from 2 Tier - Single Assignment to 2 Tier - Single Contract-Single Assignment, for a Legal Entity that already has employees?

Current Requirement: we need contract info field in employment page for alert option ,currently not showing due to 2 tier -Single Asssignment so we need to change in 2 Tier - Single Contract - Single Assignment.

Can we do,, what will the impact ,please suggest.
