Restricting multiple matrix manager in an assignment

Has anyone implemented any solution to restrict adding multiple matrix manager for an assignment.

We want to restrict adding of multiple matrix manager on an assignment. There is out of of the box rule for Line manager that prevents this but did not find anything for matrix manager.

We raised the Autocomplete Use case and it was rejected saying that supervisor object is not supported. Hence wanted to check if there is any other way to achieve this.
