API or update of schedule_ship_date on Transfer Order from the front end?

Summary:

We have a need to update schedule ship date on Transfer Order. However Oracle doesn't allow an update of schedule_ship_date.

Oracle says that we cannot update Scheduled Ship Date so user has to update Need By Date and it will automatically update Scheduled Ship Date accordingly. Need by Date is "Requested Delivery Date" and when I update this from the Edit Transfer Order, SSD doesn't change. Do I have to enable any profile options or setting for this?
