Using Pending Worker for Rehires

We are investigating the possibility of using pending workers. How do you get pending workers to link a rehire back to the original hire so that they have the same person ID.

When you hire someone, the system does a name/bday/ssn check to see if you are entering someone who is already in the system and then gives you the option to use an employee that has been previously termed (rehire process). Pending worker doesn't seem to have that functionality, so how do you link those records up?
