Temporarily switch on/off Chat from Portal

Is there any way that we can switch on/off the chat function from our portal temporarily. I know you can specify chat hours for each interface. But is there a way to switch off the chat function for a few hours if there are no available chat agents (for example). I know that if all agents are logged out that the Portal would display a "Agents not available" message in the chat window, however is there a way to hide the chat link completely from all portal pages temporarily and switch it back on when we are ready?
