Is there a way to change work definition using REST api once work order is released

Summary:

We have a requirement wherein work order created in oracle and communicated to another legacy system for work order scheduling and execution. In some cases legacy system may switch to alternate work definition before actual execution. Do we have any REST api available to change work definition of released work order.
