Budgetary Control Segments

Hi All,
We are about to implement the budgetary control (BC) OOB functionality in planning for our client. We need to know how dimensionality works in between each application, EPM and BC in ERP. Does budgetary control segments and EPM financial dimensions must be in sync with each other in order to be able to successfully enable it?
Ex: In case of EPM Financials, we have 4 custom dimensions (Fund,Event,Project,Location) enabled along with the other standard dimensions (Account, Entity, Year,Scenario, Version etc), does it require us to create the same budget segments in BC to be aligned with EPM FS dimensions? In our case Do we need to create (Fund,Event,Project,Account,Dept,Location) as budget segments?
