Change status of a Non Catalog item to completed without actually activating it with Catalog item

Is there a possibility/workaround to change the status of a Non Catalog item to completed without actually activating it with a Catalog item selected.

Business doesn't want to convert the non catalog learning to catalog learning to change the status.
