Mass update on Work Email

We have a customer requirement to mass update work emails. So far we have attempted to use HSDL and HDL, and both were presented with the error "You can't add more than one email of type Work Email."

The Business Object used was Contact - any guidance on how to mass update work emails would be very appreciated.
