What is best practice when handling acquisitions and disposals of subsidiaries in FCCS?
Summary:
In order to handle the calculations and eliminations associated with acquiring and disposing of subsidiaries some consolidation systems provide tools that are referred to as "acquisition register" or similar. Such a register would contain the basic information needed to calculate and schedule the journal entries needed to handle things like excess values and elimination of past equity. Providing system functionality for this keeps sensitive information like ownership percentages out of spreadsheets and also ensures that the underlying calculations are documented and consistent.
FCCS does not appear to provide any standard functionality for this purpose and it would therefore be helpful to understand what is best practice in this area.
