How to use "Combine results based on union, intersection, and difference operations?

Summary:

I don't understand how to use it. Whenever I add my 2 subject areas and then the fields, I don't know what to do after that. I need additional fields that are not in both subject areas, but I don't know how to use the union so that it lets me get fields that are not in both. I know how to join different subject areas using a measure and checking the deminsionality box, but I want to know when and how to use the "combine results…" I've looked for detailed instructions, but seem to be
