FCC acquisitions and disposals treatment and reporting

How are clients or customers dealing with acquisitions and disposals of entities in FCC without using an alt entity hierarchy. A client wants to show entity acquired in a separate layer in year of acquisition and then in underlying data in year 2 but with the data available historically (if we look back from the future the acquired entity still needs to be shown in separate roll up in year of acquisition).

Have explored using the OOB functionality but the discontinued and inactive consol methods appear to still be unavailable for use. Can anyone confirm if they have successfully used this?
