What happen if I change the Code Catalog Categories if the categories are associated to the items?

Actually, the customer environment has an unique Legal Entity but now wants to implement other Legal Entity. The data will be the same for both Legal Entities. Is it possible to change the Code Catalog Categories for that both companies can use the inventory, cost and purchasing categories in the items?
