Vacation Rules / Leave Requests / Integrations

Wanted to share scenario we regularly encounter which vacation rules could help resolve - but then beyond this have some thoughts/ideas around an ideal user experience, without really knowing if it may possible - so please bear with the blue sky thinking! Something I can throw into the Ideas Lab perhaps.
Manager X has period of leave coming up. If vacation rule is added that delegates requests to an alternate, during their period of leave, requests will be directed to this alternate for approval.
If Manager X doesn't add vacation rule, during period of leave, admin often asked to either redirect a request awaiting approval, or setup a vacation rule, otherwise requests are left unapproved until Manager X returns from leave. (timeout)
