We are looking for options to connect to the HCM database from external application eg. Excel

We are looking for options to connect to the HCM database to pull employee and org data to simplify some of the processes for our HR.

Please let us know on the options available, constraints etc, any documentation/links/references would help as well. Enclosing a mockup excel form we are planning to build that would consume the resultsets.

Sample use-case - For the person number entered, pull the latest assignment details and populate in the form provided (assuming the front end application VBA code would slice the data to populate as required during display).
