Is it possible to click a link in the LIG that opens a pop-up?

Hello,

We have a column View Details in the LIG:

And when clicked a page is opened (not in another tab but directly in the same page) with other information about the product.

We would like it to be opened as a pop up if possible or in another tab (without having to right click and select open in another tab).

Is there a way to do that? How?
