How can a user be authorized to visualize items without the authorization to modify anything?

A user with the role "Product Manager" is authorized to read articles and automatically also authorized to modify them, and I would like to know if there are any possibilities to separate those two authorizations.
The client asked us a segregation in order to have the possibility to Visualize without have any possibility to modify articles with that role.
Is there any way to manage it?
