System Configuration - Child Models with Multiple Nodes and Recommended Items - Many Issues

Summary:

We are having lots of issues trying to set up system configurator to work with child models with 2 + config flow nodes and recommended items.

Issues:
- Values in the 2nd node (but not the 1st) get wiped out upon reconfiguring.
- The system panel does not reliably appear in the 2nd node (but does appear in 1st node)
Note we have enabled "Retain Selection of Optional Items on Reconfigure" in the Configuration settings and does not help with the above.
Is this supported ?
