Reversed receipt and new rcpt created with same detail. Claim is not applying on new receipt via API

We reversed a receipt and created a new receipt with the same details. However, when claim investigation was tried to be applied using SOAP webservice on the new receipt it kept throwing error 'You must enter a valid receipt number'. Is this happening because the API doesn't have a receipt id field and hence is unable to distinguish between the newly created receipt and reversed receipt i.e is this API unable to distinguish between reversed receipts and receipts in open state?
