Loading the depreciation reserve balance which is more than asset cost

Currently the client is bringing up one of legacy assets where the cost is a negative value and depreciation reserve is a positive value making it the depreciation reserve greater than the cost. Currently the system gives an error. Is there a way to handle such a special case?
