How many records can be updated using rest API timeRecordEventRequests in one go

Summary: We have to update transaction id which is an attribute defined in OTL. requirement is to update 100k+ records for which this transaction id was wrongly populated. when we have used timeRecordEventRequests, we are get 401 bad request error for more than 400 records. what is the optimal number. is there any other better solution to do mass upload.
