Alpha Numeric Person Number Auto Generation

What is the correct process to generate the person number, The requirement of client is to have the alpha-Numeric person number to be generated through automatic supported. We also understand as per the Doc ID 1991713.1 the alphanumeric auto generation is not supported but with the recent 24D release Does Oracle support this now?

In case the answer is NO then if We do some customization using API to pass the alphanumeric person number ,will oracle support such customization?
Will it be upgrade safe? and will not have any impact due to patch application or newer version implementation?
