Is it possible to enable JET for only new RTE fields?

Summary:

We currently have many legacy RTE fields which we are not ready to convert to JET yet. However, we need to create new RTE fields to support business requirements. I know we need to request enabling JET RTE through an SR. However, if we enable JET RTE, does that automatically convert existing RTE fields to JET? Can we keep existing RTE fields continue to be supported as legacy while we create new JET RTE fields?
