Can a summary rec have a different frequency than the underlying individual recs?

I'm curious if there's a way to create a summary rec with a quarterly frequency that rolls up individual recs that have a monthly frequency? Or do the underlying recs of a summary rec always need to have the same frequency as the summary rec? Essentially is there a way to consolidate 3 months' worth of monthly recs into a quarterly summary rec?
