Partial approval in WIP inspection for a lot with material status

Hello, I have the following scenario:

We created a manufacturing work order and generated a lot. this lot has a material status by default. During the WIP inspection, some items are not accepted (scrapped, rejected, etc..) what happens to these items? do they remain in the lot? because we need an action to change the lot status after the approval of the items.

Please advise.
