How to handle component changes in BOM with Open Work Orders

We have a home grown MES application. When the Work Order is completed, it is interfaced to Oracle Cloud as Orderless Completion. When there are component changes in Structure, the open work orders with the old component is failing in the interface as it is replaced or end dated. We would like to know how such scenarios are handled by other clients.
