Are there any users out there who have disabled a Secondary Balancing Segment?

in General Ledger & Intercompany

Current customer was configured with an unneeded Secondary Balancing Segment, causing (of course) a lot of problems.

I've read documentation that you can turn this off, but that it's not advisable.

Is there anyone out there who actually has turned off the Secondary Balancing Segment, and lived to tell the tale?
